Bill Schmidt began to build his first Coot in 1970. It took lots of self-confidence to build the tail from wood, since the plans are only for aluminum or steel tube tails.  Bill also lengthened the hull to accommodate 4 people (2 + 2).  His wings and a hull bulkhead are visible in the background.
