Bill Motes was the first Coot-builder to install a rotary (Mazda) engine on his Coot.

Apparently, it flew perfectly well, but Bill replaced it with a Franklin 180 (shown here)

when his arthritis became so bad that he couldn't fly it any more. (Photo taken ~ 1980.)
