There seems to be a consensus by now that the Coot's stability in yaw can be optimized by building a tall, thin tail fairing and by rounding off sharp corners.   This fairing seems to hug the tail boom more closely than most fabric fairings, and it would be great to know if this design reduces yaw instability as well.
